The Opportunity
Trusted Recruiter is recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing client within the mobility and rehabilitation equipment sector for an Area Sales Manager to cover the North of England and Scotland.
Our client has been working with the NHS for over 30 years and has built an established reputation within the wheelchair and mobility market. They have longstanding relationships across the sector and continue to invest in new and updated products, product development and growth.
This isn’t simply a role where you are handed a huge territory and expected to generate everything yourself. The successful candidate will have the support of an in-house telemarketing team, helping to generate opportunities and appointments and allowing the Area Sales Manager to spend more time out in the field, meeting customers and developing relationships, with less time consumed by administration and cold prospecting.
Around 75% of the role will be focused on NHS Wheelchair Services, with the remaining 25% developing relationships with established and prospective retailers/dealers.
The product portfolio includes manual wheelchairs, powered mobility products, rollators and bariatric chairs, providing a broad range of solutions to discuss with customers.
The Territory
This is a Northern territory covering a significant part of the North of England and Scotland. Key areas include Manchester, Liverpool, Yorkshire, Newcastle, Sunderland and Scotland, alongside surrounding Northern regions as required.
Due to the geographical size of the territory, candidates should be comfortable with regular travel and managing their diary effectively.
The Role
· Managing and developing relationships with NHS Wheelchair Services
· Working with clinicians, rehabilitation professionals and other key NHS stakeholders
· Developing relationships with mobility retailers and dealers
· Promoting a range of manual wheelchairs, powered mobility, rollators and bariatric seating products
· Carrying out product demonstrations and assessments where required
· Providing product training to customers and clinical teams
· Supporting customers with product selection and appropriate solutions
· Conducting occasional stocktakes and stock management activities
· Developing existing accounts and identifying opportunities for further growth
· Introducing customers to new and updated products
· Working closely with the company’s in-house telemarketing team to maximise appointments and opportunities
· Attending relevant industry events and exhibitions
· Managing the territory effectively while maintaining strong, long-term customer relationships
Who Are We Looking For?
Our client is particularly interested in speaking with people who have experience of working with or within NHS Wheelchair Services.
· An existing Area Sales Manager, Territory Sales Manager or Product Specialist within wheelchairs, mobility or rehabilitation
· A Wheelchair Specialist or Clinical/Technical Specialist
· A Rehabilitation Engineer looking to move into a commercially focused role
· An NHS Wheelchair Service professional looking to move into a commercial position
· Someone currently working for a relevant manufacturer or competitor
Previous wheelchair experience and an understanding of the NHS Wheelchair Services environment would be particularly advantageous. The successful candidate does not need to be an aggressive, transactional salesperson. The role is better suited to somebody who can build credibility with clinicians, understand customer requirements, demonstrate products effectively and develop relationships commercially over time.
Salary, Commission & Benefits
· £40 –£45k basic salary
· Uncapped commission, paid monthly
· Typical OTE of £20k+
· Potential to earn £45k+ through the overall bonus/commission structure
· Individual product bonuses
· KPI-related bonuses
· Company van
· iPhone
· Laptop
There are several ways to earn additional income beyond the basic salary, rather than relying on a single annual sales target.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is a particularly attractive opportunity for somebody who enjoys the clinical and relationship-building side of wheelchair and mobility sales, but also wants the earning potential and autonomy of a commercial territory role.
You will be joining a well-established organisation with more than three decades of experience working with the NHS, while also joining at a time when the business continues to grow and develop its product offering.
The company regularly introduces new and updated products, giving the sales team fresh opportunities to engage with existing and prospective customers.
There is also an emphasis on ensuring the sales team understands the wider business and the products they represent. This can include opportunities to attend overseas industry events and visit manufacturing facilities, providing greater exposure to product development and the wider mobility market.
Combined with the support of an in-house telemarketing team, this provides an environment where the Area Sales Manager can concentrate much more heavily on customer visits, assessments, demonstrations, training and developing the territory.
